Speaking before the game on July 28 at Singapore’s National Stadium, Emery said: “I am very grateful to PSG and I had good experiences and moments for my career. We are going to play against a big club with big players. Not every player is on the pitch because of holiday. But for me, we want to play for our preparation and I am also excited to meet my friends who worked with me back in PSG.”
The 46-year-old took over as Arsenal’s manager as he succeeded long-serving manager Arsène Wenger who left the London club after 22 years.
Even after Arsenal beat PSG 5-1, Emery said he remains focused on finding the best playing style for his new side. “It doesn’t change the idea, our mind, to improve in terms of tactical play and the pace of every player. It is important that there were no injuries and to give all players an opportunity to play,” he said.
“The result isn’t the most important to me,” Emery added. “My idea is to have a team with good spirit, energy and quality players.”
Arsenal has faced a tough start to the English Premier League. They lost 2-0 to champions Manchester City and is set to face London rivals Chelsea in the next game.
